The Contract: In March 2023, Fuel Discount Buyers, based on the concept of a national fuel buying group, negotiated a contract with Canada’s 2nd largest fuel retailer of .035 OFF OF RACK (ie: wholesale) PRICING, equating to at pump & cardlock savings of 20 – 30 cents/litre on both regular gas & diesel. After 3 levels of senior management signed off on the contract & Discount Fuel Buyers were about to launch (or go live), the offer was rescinded. The sense was that Discount Fuel Buyers were viewed as a “market disrupter” & would decrease industry fuel margins nation wide.
